Formado em Atlanta, GA, por Richard Turner (baixo e vocal), seu irmão Brit Turner (bateria),Charlie Starr (guitarra e vocal), Brandon Still (teclados), Paul Jackson (guitarra), continuam crescendo como uma autêntica banda de orgulho sulista. Têm excursionado com ZZ TOP, Lynyrd Skynyrd, entre outros.
O Blackberry Smoke pode ser considerado muito jovem para se lembrar a primeira vista do lado mais visceral do Lynyrd Skynyrd, ou pela excelência temperamental do The Marshall Tucker Band ou pelo Blues corajoso e direto dos três primeiros álbuns ZZ TOP, mas eles fazem um trabalho bastante decente, sem escorregar para o lado POP. O álbum de estreia, "Bad Luck Ain't No Crime", foi lançado em 2003 e teve a produção a cargo de Jesse James Dupree (Jackyl)
Para o lançamento do segundo álbum, “Little Piece of Dixie” (de 2009, que também foi o nome de seu EP em 2008) encontraram um equilíbrio com as demais bandas do Rock do sul. Com pegada Southern Rock e letras bem puxada para o Country, foi um disco altamente aceito pelo público.
O Blackberry Smoke não se apoiou “nos ombros” dos grandes nomes do estilo (ZZ TOP, por exemplo), então não há falta de carisma. Charlie Starr transmite personalidade e atitude. Os vocais são apertados, com grande harmonização feita pelo guitarrista Paul Jackson, e a seção rítmica dos irmãos Brit e Richard Turner é como uma rocha sólida.
Blackberry Smoke é indiscutivelmente atemporal. Adorado por fãs de Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special e toda a nata do Southern Rock. Seus bons momentos com as mulheres e a bebida, tudo isso está incluso em sua letras, sem deixar “ar fresco dos campos do sul” de lado.
